# File storage

> See how much file storage your organization uses, what counts toward it, and when form uploads are deleted.

## Overview

Your organization's file storage shows under **Billing & usage** in **Settings**. It counts the files stored in Zite: database attachments, app uploads, and PDFs generated by Zite apps. Files uploaded to a Fillout form don't count toward it.

## See how much storage you use

1. Click your **organization name** in the upper left corner, then **Settings**.
2. Click **Billing & usage**.
3. Under **Usage**, find **Storage**. **File storage** shows how much you use out of your allowance.

Your allowance depends on your Zite plan:

| Zite plan | File storage |
| :- | :- |
| **Free** | 1 GB |
| **Pro** | 10 GB |
| **Business** | 100 GB |
| **Team** | 100 GB |
| **Enterprise** | 1 TB or more |

### Start tracking file uploads

Organizations created before 29 October 2026 see **Start tracking file uploads** instead of a number the first time. Click it to count the files you already store. **Counting your files…** shows while it runs. It can take a few minutes, and you can leave the page in the meantime. Organizations created after that are tracked from the start.

## What counts toward storage

| File | Counts toward storage |
| :- | :- |
| A file uploaded through a Fillout form's [file upload](https://fillout.com/help/file-upload.md) field | No |
| The copy of that file in a Zite database, when the form [saves to a Zite database](https://fillout.com/help/sync-form-results.md) | Yes |
| A file uploaded directly to a Zite database | Yes |
| A file uploaded through a Zite app | Yes |
| A PDF generated by a Zite app | Yes |
| A PDF generated by a Fillout form ([documents](https://fillout.com/help/pdfs.md)) | No |

When a form saves its responses to a Zite database, each uploaded file is copied into the database, so the record keeps working even if the submission is deleted. Records saved before 29 October 2026 still link to the form's file instead.

PDFs generated by Fillout forms aren't stored. They're rebuilt from your document template each time their link is opened.

## When form uploads are deleted

A file uploaded to a form is deleted automatically when its [submission is deleted](https://fillout.com/help/delete-a-form-submission.md), or when the form is emptied from the [Trash](https://fillout.com/help/delete-and-restore-forms.md). Moving a form to the Trash doesn't delete its files.

## Files in Zite workspaces

Organization admins can find, preview, and delete the files stored in each Zite workspace from its **Files** page in the workspace sidebar. It lists files uploaded to the workspace's database and apps, not form uploads. A file a record still uses can't be deleted there.

To permanently delete a file from a Zite database, see [Delete uploaded files](https://www.zite.com/help/database/manage-data/delete-uploaded-files) in the Zite Help Centre.
